I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well (Psa 139:14).With that David reflects on God's intimate connection with his very being from the womb to every day. "In Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them" (Psa 139:16).
It's in moments like these that science is a real friend. We see the ordinary, but science delves into the remarkable. Science tells us that your heart keeps beating and lungs keep breathing automatically because your brain does it involuntarily. It tells us that the heart pumps blood utilizing complex systems of respiration, circulation, and filtration to provide the necessary components throughout the body. An intelligent and microscopic immune system knows "self" and "not self" and remembers how to deal with various "not self" conditions. Cells work as complicated factories complete with shipping and receiving, production, and transportation of highly specialized operations. And the brain ... the brain is still beyond real comprehension. The human body is a supremely balanced, masterfully designed machine -- fearfully and wonderfully made.
When you woke up this morning, did you thank God for your body? David thought it was an excellent launch platform for praise to the Maker. From either the mirror or the microscope, I would agree.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.
