To the President

The President of the United States, as it turns out, uses Twitter. Imagine that! So, for what warm and insightful things does he use this tool?

Last week he offered this: "Retweet if you believe everyone should be able to marry the person they love."

Dear Mr. President,

Really? I mean, really??!! Is that your stand? Is that your position? I'm interested because, knowing you to be a wise and caring individual, I'm wondering if you're going to next take up the fight for polygamy. Well, no, I suppose not. Polygamy for heterosexuals is out. But I recognize that you are fighting for the rights of the LGBTQURYW-and-whatever-other-letter-we-can-think-of community, so how about those poor "B's", the bisexuals who, to this day, do not have the right to marry both genders? When are you going to propose legislation on their behalf? And, look, if Mary wants to marry Shelly and Steve, and Steve wants to marry Mary and Bob, where are they going to get this right to "be able to marry the person they love"? Isn't polyamory high on your list of concerns for the American people and their happiness? And, look, how about those poor people who love and have no right to marry the ones they've already married? You know, the guy who married his dead girlfriend or the woman who married the Eiffel Tower (after a failed relationship with her fence), the man who married himself or the woman who married a truck or the guy who married a video game character or the girl who married her favorite roller coaster? Where are their rights? How soon are we going to fight for the rights of everyone who wants to marry the ones they love? Is this legislation on the horizon?

No? Hmmph! Can't imagine why! Can't be because you haven't thought it through or aren't actually sincere about it, can it? Or is it too high of an expectation to want the President of the United States to be able to think through things logically?

And what about the brother and sister who are madly in love with each other - shouldn't they be allowed to marry who they love? What about a man and his adult daughter who want to marry - shouldn't they be allowed to marry who they love? A mother and adult son?

Those who won't allow such marriages are nothing but bigots.

"Marry the one you love"

A brother cannot marry a sister.

A father cannot marry his adopted daughter.

An uncle cannot marry his nephew.

A patient deemed "mentally incompetent" cannot marry his doctor.

A 14-year-old boy cannot marry the 25-year-old teacher he's in love with.

A 13-year-old girl cannot marry the 20-year-old boy she loves.

There is no State in the Union that allows a married man to marry another woman he also loves.

A "cat lady" cannot marry the cats she adores.

No one actually favors "Marry the one you love." Restrictions abound.

Yes, and THAT is the point that homosexuals and their supporters refuse to acknowledge. They call us bigots for not wanting to give sanction to same-sex unions, all the while they are bigoted against any other union which THEY consider to be wrong!

They are very arbitrary, are they not?

Arguing for "equality", they offer ambiguity and inequity.
