A Little Confused
Apparently President Trump has rejected Iran’s seven-day cease-fire proposal. Instead, Trump plans to restart bombing after the midterm elections. My confusion is this—what does one have to do with the other? I mean, if this president can find time to deal with renaming Lake Ontario and New Mexico, why can’t he deal with elections and blow things up at the same time? And, look, if he isn’t starting again until after the midterm elections, isn’t that more than seven days? It’s all so confusing.
The Government We Don’t Trust
The Supreme Court gave the Donald the go ahead to continue using the DHS SAVE database for verifying voter rolls for potential noncitizens. A lower court blocked it, but the Supreme Court reversed that ruling. Apparently a government should have a listing of citizens in its domain that can be used to verify … citizenship. Others are pretty sure you can’t allow a government to have that kind of power … or something like that. I always thought the same when the teacher was calling roll in school. “Is it fair she would know who is supposed to be in this class?”
Real Humanitarians
Russia continues its humanitarian mission to kill civilians in Ukraine. This week they hit a steelmaker, killing seven civilians. The United Nations doesn’t seem to mind. A few less Ukrainians isn’t “inhumane.”
A Staggering Statistic
Canada is reporting that, currently, assisted suicides make up 10% of all deaths in Canada. Mind you, COVID killed less than 2% of those who got it and in Canada legal suicide is killing at a rate of 10% of all deaths. The story says, “These people are dying to leave Canada.” Was that an attempt at humor?
Fake News to Make Your Day
On that “assisted suicide” story out of Canada, the Bee reported that Canada clarified that “assisted suicide” meant “totally unsolicited murder,” which cleared things up for a lot of people. In politics, there is a movement afoot to nominate Alexandra Ocasio Cortez (AOC) for president in 2028 (actual story). The Bee responded with the story of a man who’s taking solace in the belief that AI will destroy humanity before that happens. Could she actually win? Don’t worry; we won’t live that long. Finally, there’s the story of the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations where they still want people to take them seriously. Fortunately, no one is taking them seriously on that.
