The famous hymn, The Doxology, begins, "Praise God from whom all blessings flow." Think about that for a moment. How many times have I heard a football player or an athlete or someone that just survived a killer tornado or any number of people who say, "We are really blessed." It's a friendly term, "blessed". It offers the idea that we have been given more than we deserve, and it is indeed quite true. When you hear that term, consider the source of the blessing. All blessings flow from God. "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change" (James 1:17). And we are indeed showered with gifts.
My father has a coffee cup with the this verse written on it: "Eye has not seen nor has ear heard, nor has the heart of man imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him" (1 Cor 2:9). What an astounding thought. You think you know what kinds of things God can offer you? Think again. You think you've got a handle on what God can do in your life? Think again. Do you think that your prayers are big enough? You might want to reconsider that. The same God who exceeds your capacity to dream is the one that provides every blessing. Praise God!
