When Sports Rule the World
DiJonai Carrington is a guard for the Connecticut Sun, a WNBA team. She is expecting the WNBA to take a "clear and serious stance" against the new (democratically elected) president. What specifically she's expecting isn't clear, but it's not a pat on the back for Trump. Always classy, DiJonai.
Extortion Note Writ Large
In a brilliant attempt to make their message known, a large crowd shut down the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles for hours, protesting the deportation of illegal immigrants. There's nothing like an "in your face" "We don't care how much trouble we cause! We're going to make you knuckle under" protest (read "extortion") to win the hearts and minds of the people. Well, okay, you're right. Let's discard the rule of law and the universal notion of national borders and just open 'em up. We'll see how that works for you. Just stop destroying our Sundays.
Obstructionist
U.S. Senator Brian Schatz said he would block Senate votes on Trump's nominees in protest over closing the USAID ... because everyone knows that diplomats don't deserve to be considered if you don't like the guy nominating them. It's not on merits; it's on political disagreement. It's stupid. It's obstructionist.
Hate Speeches
Angry protesters descended on Washington D.C. to demonstrate against Elon Musk. They're battle cry: "Nobody elected Elon." The truth is no one elected a single member of Trump's cabinet. No one ever has elected any cabinet member for any president. But it's only Elon they're irate about. Because "We hate billionaires!" Cabinet members have been doing what cabinet members have always done and no one has argued "We have to stop the destruction of our democracy!" Until now. Please ... stop ... you're embarrassing yourselves. You have to know that American democracy is not predicated on giving foreign aid, right?
Trump Derangement Syndrome
Democrats have filed for impeachment of Trump because they didn't like what he said about Gaza. I can't even ...
A Breaking Story
Here's a breaking story. On the cutting edge of research, scientists have found the recipe for boiling eggs. While we're in an egg crisis. Because no one has ever figured out how to boil eggs before. Your research dollars at work. Sigh. (And, no, that's not a story from the Bee.)
In Other Fake News ...
The WHO is warning that Trump's funding cuts may delay the release of the newest pandemic. Elsewhere, liberals are outraged that Trump won't let men punch women in the face for sport. And then there's the sad news that with USAID shut down, Ecuadorian children may never discover their true gender.
Must be true; I read it on the Internet.

As would be expected, you touched on several of the political actions of the past “eventful” week (I’ll term it that way). The one event I noted with interest (which you didn’t mention) was the National Prayer Breakfast, which Trump attended--and which presumably was more to his liking than the recent service that included the scolding woke female Episcopalian bishop! Although it’s encouraging to learn that Trump was affected by his close call of Jul. 13, 2024, and has been thinking about spiritual issues, as he hinted, it’s not encouraging to see the poor choices for “spiritual advisors” he is embracing (nor to hear him say, “I really believe you can’t be happy without religion…. Let’s bring religion back….). May there be true and Spirit-led new life in Trump’s heart that goes beyond a mere “Christianized” façade and a “bring God back into our lives” campaign. We must pray, pray, pray for Trump’s true conversion. “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (Jam. 5:16)
When Sports Rule The World
Because we know so many people are looking to the WNBA for our moral guidance. I guess she really wants to play against men.
Extortion Note Writ Large
I also understand that there wasn't a single American flag in the crowd. Hey, if your country is so much better than ours, why not go back?
Obstructionist
This type of action is why I'm beginning to wonder if our experiment of government has finally run its course. It is no longer two parties that want the same outcome, but have different ideas on how to get there. There is a radical diametric opposition here that can't be settled with compromise. I'm not hoping for it, but I can't see this system maintaining itself for much longer.
Hate Speeches
Do they not realize that the vast majority of our federal and local government isn't directly elected? We elect people that we hope will put people in place that align with their goals. If we had to elect every single position in government, we'd not be able to do anything but vote all day every day.

A Breaking Story
Glad to know that scientists have figured out by wasting time and money how we can waste our time more. What scientist bit into a hard boiled egg and wondered, "What grant money can I get to study how many ways I can boil an egg?"
Prayer for Trump (and the rest of government) is our duty and the best possible thing to do. You're right.
Having worked in the university research environment, I can imagine, "We need money. How can we get a grant? Hey, Bob, what's that you're cooking? An egg? I have an idea!!"
I agree that anyone in the WNBA trying to pull this kind of thing seriously overestimates their importance.
Yeah, the fact that all of the protestors are waving the flags of the places that are so horrible that they had to leave is a little strange.
