Rewriting History

I've been reading some really bizarre things lately and all of the sudden I realized that I have been the victim of a whitewashed version of history. Over at Democrats.org we read:
For more than 200 years, our party has led the fight for civil rights, health care, Social Security, workers' rights, and women's rights. We are the party of Barack Obama, John F. Kennedy, FDR, and the countless everyday Americans who work each day to build a more perfect union.
This is what we've heard. This is what we've been told. As we're all aware, Republicans are racist and wish to bring back "Jim Crow" laws. Republicans oppose President Obama not simply because he's a Democrat, but because he's black. Republicans are opposed to civil rights. We all know this. The Democrats are the people's party and the Republicans are elitist and racist. And then ...

Well, let's try this. How is your history? From the National Black Republican Association we get a history test. Here are some of the questions:
1. What Party was founded as the anti-slavery Party and fought to free blacks from slavery?
[ ] a. Democratic Party
[ ] b. Republican Party

3. What Party passed the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments to the U. S. Constitution granting blacks freedom, citizenship, and the right to vote?
[ ] a. Democratic Party
[ ] b. Republican Party

4. What Party passed the Civil Rights Acts of 1866 and 1875 granting blacks protection from the Black Codes and prohibiting racial discrimination in public accommodations, and was the Party of most blacks prior to the 1960’s, including Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Booker T. Washington, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?
[ ] a. Democratic Party
[ ] b. Republican Party

5. What was the Party of the founding fathers of the NAACP?
[ ] a. Democratic Party
[ ] b. Republican Party
It goes on and on. You ought to take a look. (Hint: All the answers to these questions are "b".) (Oh, I guess that's not a hint, is it?)

But, look, that's from a biased perspective ... the National Black Republicans Association. So is that the best you can do? Let's look at "better" sources. Let's look at PBS, for instance. They tell us, "After the Civil War, most white Southerners opposed Radical Reconstruction and the Republican Party's support of black civil and political rights. The Democratic Party identified itself as the 'white man's party' and demonized the Republican Party as being 'Negro dominated,' even though whites were in control." (Emphasis mine.)

Wait ... wait ... that's not what we've been told. What happened? The Wall Street Journal says it was a whitewashing (ironic, eh?) of the true history of the Democratic Party. No reference to the fact that it was the Democrats who instituted the "Jim Crow" laws that segregated the South. No reference to the fact that Rosa Parks was protesting rules set in place by Democrats. No recognition at all that the Ku Klux Klan was started as the military arm of the Democratic Party. No mention of the fact that the Civil Rights Act of 1866 was vetoed by Democratic President Andrew Johnson or that the veto was overrided by a Republican Congress. The list goes on and on.

What do the Democrats think now? Well, obviously, they're opposed to "Jim Crow" and any of those nasty (and imaginary) Republicans who favor it. They're opposed to slavery. (Of course, the reason the Republican party was first founded in the 1850's was to eliminate slavery.) Oddly, it appears that the Democratic Party has proudly adopted the position of the Republican Party. And we are greatly pleased to hear their apology for the centuries of abuse of the earlier Democrats. Oh, you didn't hear that apology? No, I guess not. That was taken care of by rewriting history. Simple thing. All fixed. Happens all the time. Let's move on against those evil racists, the Republicans.

Are the Democrats the "axis of evil"? No, not the point. Are Republicans the answer to our problems? Not at all. I'm simply pointing out that the mainstream media is not giving you the truth and the politicians are not giving you the truth and making judgments based on blurbs from biased sources is a tricky business to undertake. It is my suspicion that we're not being told the truth a lot more than we are. I call it "the suppression of truth in unrighteousness". You can quote me.

Informative post, Stan.

I had to chuckle a decade back in a chatroom connected with an entertainment website. The New York Times came up as a topic. I pointed out that it was biased way over to the Left. A female resident of New York City who I am sure was a straight-ticket Democrat voter responded, "No, the New York Times is neutral."

It always seems as if "My side is neutral; your side is biased and misdirected" regardless of the differences. On the other hand, the truth is that no side is "neutral", nor is it even rational to think it could be.

That little quiz, of course, is just the tip of the historical iceberg. What the left has in its favor is the perception their constant lying about these facts has created, and the fact that there are too many people who won't take the time to find out the truth.
