Facing the Giants

Okay, this never, ever, ever happens. I got an email from my mother recommending a movie. You have to understand. My parents don't watch movies. Perhaps they take in one or two a year ... maximum ... including rentals. So when I got an email from my mother recommending this movie (to an all-inclusive list of folks in the header), I had to take a look.

The movie title is Facing the Giants. This is the plot summary:
From the award winning producers of Flywheel, comes an action-packed drama about a Christian high school football coach who uses his undying faith to battle the giants of fear and failure. In six years of coaching, Grant Taylor has never led his Shiloh Eagles to a winning season. After learning that he and his wife Brooke face infertility, Grant discovers that a group of fathers are secretly organizing to have him dismissed as head coach. Devastated by his circumstances, he cries out to God in desperation. When Grant receives a message from an unexpected visitor, he searches for a stronger purpose for his football team. He dares to challenge his players to believe God for the impossible on and off the field. When faced with unbelievable odds, the Eagles must step up to their greatest test of strength and courage. What transpires is a dynamic story of the fight between faith and fear. Facing the Giants is a powerful experience for the whole family inspiring viewers to live with faith, hope, and love!
This is clearly not your every day Hollywood fare. I understand it isn't in the theaters for long, so if you want to get something that actually might be beneficial to watch, I suggest you get there fast.

Oh, and here's the kicker. This movie is rated PG ... for religious content! I kid you not. Violence, language, sexual situations, sure, they can threaten young children's fragile minds, but certainly not any more than talking about God.

It's really a good film. I took my daughter and we both loved it. Is it a slick Hollywood production? No. It was never intended to be that way. Bear in mind, the whole production was done by volunteers on a shoestring (actually more like a thread of a shoestring) budget.

The Message is so clear and uplifting

I absolutely LOVED Flywheel it was a fabulous story. It wasn't slick Hollywood, either, and the acting wasn't all that great, but the story overcame all that. I'll certainly be looking for this one.
