I Will Be Regarded as Holy - Part 2

The concept of meditation requires a few words on its own. The idea of meditation is that of a private act of devotion in which we purposely reflect on spiritual truth. It is typically accompanied by prayer and often includes decisions about future conduct. The word only appears 25 times in the Old Testament, but the import of each is so great that it would seem to be the duty of every believer who is interested in their spiritual well being to pay attention to meditation. It should be continuous (Psa. 1:2; 119:97). It may include reflection on the works of creation (Psa. 19:1-6), God’s perfect character (Deut. 32:4), the work and character of Christ (Heb. 12:2-3), and the Holy Spirit (John 15-16), God’s care for us (Psa. 97:1-2), God’s Word (Psa. 119), etc. Meditation is a lost art in today’s culture, tinged as it is with so much eastern philosophy, but biblical meditation needs to be recovered as part of our worship.
