News Weakly - 10/31/2026

The Latest Weapon
In Kenya, at least 22 people were killed and another 24 injured when a bus and a truck collided. Sadly, most of the passengers were returning from a funeral. In Spain, another 83 people were injured when a bus plunged down a 65-foot hillside after colliding with a car. Given the two incidents, nations are now moving for “bus control” to make it safer for us all. Or not.

One Way to Win
California Governor Newsom is pushing Prop 4 in California to “eliminate private big money in California elections.” How does it eliminate private money? By making taxpayers pay for the candidates’ campaigns. So, the taxpayers will pay for the campaigns and, whoever wins, the taxpayers will have won and … very likely most of them will have supported, through their tax dollars, policies and people they didn’t want. Nice.

Blame Where Blame is Due
Israel bombed Gaza, killing two Palestinians (terrorists, according to Israel) and a child. Sixty Christians in Ethiopia were killed in two “brutal and merciless massacres” by the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). Oil prices jumped 2% this week because of the Houthi-Saudi conflict. Clearly the blame lies in the problem of global climate change. If we could just get that under control, everyone would be nice to each other.

And Now for Something Completely Different
From the Babylon Bee, we read that Minnesota is excited because they’re expecting voter turnout to be over 130% for the midterms. Very impressive. We learned this week of the sad passing of a beloved headmaster for gifted youngsters this week. Charles Xavier, the headmaster of Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters, died at 86 years old. Oh … wait … he looks a lot like Patrick Stewart, doesn’t he? Finally, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar reportedly held a lengthy phone call with former President Barack Obama asking for the phone number for his “birth certificate guy.” She was hoping to get some help on some immigration thing she’s facing? I don't know.

Must be true; I read it on the internet.

Sadly, Kenya isn't known for its high regard for human life so we won't be seeing any reforms there. And Spain is quickly become Islamic, and if those people weren't Muslims, their government won't care, so no reforms there. But maybe the rest of the world will care. Wait, there weren't a bunch of they/them's on the buses. Nevermind, nobody cares.

One Way to Win
I'm not interested enough in California laws to actually go read through the whole thing, but does making tax payer money available to politicians really exempt private money, or just add another pool of cash? Unless the law says that only tax payer money can be used, I don't understand how this fixes the problem they seem to think they have. Mind you, Democrats consistently spend more money in campaigning than Republicans, especially in California. Since I don't think he actually wants to hurt his party, I'm assuming this is a do nothing bill that makes him sound like he's doing something for his people, but it's actually worse for his people.

Blame Where Blame is Due
Hey, as long as we're able to blame whatever is not actually to blame, politicians are able to act like they're doing something to fix problems without actually fixing problems. The Left believes that if we socialize our money and bring everyone out of poverty, then people will magically become selfless, caring people and crime will plummet. So, fix the problem of poverty (an impossible task in the first place and not the actual cause of crime) and crime will decrease (except wherever it's been tried poverty has increased and crime isn't a "poor" problem).

And Now For Something Completely Different
It's funny that the Babylon Bee was the way I had to find out about Stewart. I thought they were riffing on some news about X-Men, but no.
