Thanksgiving, 2025

It's Thanksgiving Day. I recently came across this text and thought "someone" was better at expressing what I wanted to say. The context is at the end of King David's life. He has donated large amounts of resources to the building of the temple that Solomon would build. And ... he prays.
Therefore David blessed YHWH in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: "Blessed are You, YHWH, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, YHWH, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is Yours. Yours is the kingdom, YHWH, and You are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all. In Your hand are power and might, and in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank You, our God, and praise Your glorious name. But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from You, and of Your own have we given You. (1 Chron 29:10-14)
"All that is in the heavens and in the earth is Yours." Not mine. Not yours. His. "All things come from You, and of Your own have we given You." The best we can do is give Him ... what's His already. And He is pleased. For this, "We thank You, our God, and praise Your glorious name." For all He does. For all He gives. For "every good gift and every perfect gift" that comes from Him (James 1:17).

If we were to accurately count our blessings, I suspect we'd never reach the end. Happy Thanksgiving.

There aren't enough books in the world that could contain the blessings YHWH has provided for each person individually. We will spend eternity thanking Him and never exhaust the list. Thank you, LORD.

Like most American meal-preppers today, I will soon be preparing a carb- and calorie-dense turkey dinner for the members of my household, during which we will no doubt discuss “things we are thankful for.” Yet, I am fully mindful that I do not take my cues for how to live as a follower of Christ from the calendar or the list of Federally sanctioned days of observance. Instead, I am shaped by God’s Word, which regularly reveals to me descriptions of God’s gracious provision and lovingkindness poured out upon me every moment of every day of every year of my life. May I always hold an attitude of gratitude for all that the Lord has shared from His bounty of goodness.
