Unclear on the Concept
President Trump is at it again. He wants to rename “New Mexico” to “New America.” I think he’s missing the point. We have “New York” and “New Jersey” and “New Hampshire.” They’re named for York and Jersey and Hampshire ... England. They were created as a link with their namesakes, but as distinct and even superior. Why is “Mexico” offensive to the president but York and Jersey and Hampshire not? Hey, we could save time and just name them all “New America.” No, that won’t work. It’s not really new, is it? Oh, I know ... how about something crazy like “The United States of America”? I know ... that won’t work either. False advertising in this not-so-united country. Some people just don't seem to understand that naming something "New" whatever means it is not "Old" whatever.
Not All News is Bad News
In Minnesota this week, a 27-year-old man jumped onto a runaway bus with a driver suffering a medical emergency and saved nearly 20 kids from possible disaster. “I really felt like it was my duty,” he told one news outlet. Good job, man. Not every news item is bad news, right? Giving credit where credit is due.
When Feelings Trump Science
The Supreme Court rejected President Trump’s attempt to restrict “gender-affirming care” for transgender inmates in federal prisons. The court gave no explanation for the decision, leaving me to wonder exactly what there is in the Constitution about “gender-affirming care.” Currently, then, your tax dollars are paying for self-identified “transgender” people in prisons to receive hormone treatments, surgery, and “social accommodations” (like clothing, hair-removal devices, wigs, binders, etc.) for “gender dysphoria” which, from the rational viewpoint, would be better addressed by fixing it rather than encouraging it.
Short one today. Sorry.

This is getting ridiculous. I was fine with Gulf of America because it is technically a more accurate term since A) the US touches more gulf coast and B) all three Americas touch it, not just Mexico. But these last few are stupid. Either they're genuine attempts at remaining places which indicate an unhealthy megalomania, or they're distractions just to throw more chum into the water to makes things messier. Neither are a good thing in a president. Oh well, I'm not exactly hopeful about this country's future already.

That's impressive.
When Feeling Trump Science
Since 1992! We've been paying for this stuff for criminals since '92! This country is done for. We've turned our backs on our Creator, and now He's leaving us to our ways.
I think Trump's "New America" is just trolling.
I'm not sure trolling our allies and countrymen is what we want from a president. I wish I knew what it was like to live under a proper statesman rather than the fools who lead us now.

Yes, Trump seems to be forgetting his history lessons regarding the settlement of the New World in general and our nation in particular. The earliest settlements on present-day U.S. soil were established by historical European entities that lent their names to the newly settled regions, which were then known as New France, New Netherland, and New Spain. (Ironically enough, some of the earliest settlements were by New Spain, located in what is now the state of New Mexico.) Currently, of course, we have the major U.S. region of New England and the states of New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York. (Canada has Nova Scotia [New Scotland] and New Brunswick.) Other important “Colonial America” place names included New Albion (Latin for Great Britain), New Amsterdam, New Orange, and New Sweden. There are hundreds of U.S. counties and municipalities using “New” in their official titles--from New York City to New Orleans--referencing multiple countries around the world. (The United States is not unique in this regard, of course; there is New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, New Delhi, New Caledonia, New South Wales, and New Holland--Australia’s name for almost two centuries.)
In any event, New Mexico is not named after the modern-day country of Mexico but “after the Valley of Mexico (the heartland of the Aztec/Mexica Empire” and “was named 223 years before Mexico adopted its name” (as per AI Overview).
Trump will just need to live with it--afterall, it’s all part of what helps to “make America great,” right?
Interesting history lesson. According to WorldAtlas, “New Mexico had become part of the Spanish Kingdom in 1598 as part of the Imperial Spanish viceroyalty of New Spain. The Spanish settlers named the lands Nuevo México (New Mexico) after the Aztec Valley of the Rio Grande River in Mexico. Contrary to popular belief, New Mexico is not part of Mexico. In fact, New Mexico was established and named 223 years before the naming of Mexico in 1821.”
I am glad your source concurred with mine. Now, if someone would just explain that to Trump! :-D
Trolling the enemy (i.e. LEFTISTS) does not make Trump a fool. Childish maybe, but he is no fool. The fools in the government are those who are friendly with Islam and who are sanctioning/joining Communism.
When I was thinking of the fools in government, I was thinking in more than just Trump. However, being childish as the leader of the most powerful nation is foolish. I would like an adult in that position. But we haven't had that in my lifetime, so don't think I'm singling him out.
C'mon, Biden was an adult. An adult suffering from cognitive decline and physically declining, but still an adult (who acted like a child).
But I get, and mostly agree, with your bigger point.
