We had no bands but we did have tambourines and we clap our hands we dance the whole body partisapated, the Holy Spirit moved among his people. As a young 10 years old I didn't understand it.
We had a church choir. I was the youngest person in the choir. I was well organized to the T. Even with what little instrument we had everything was do to the glory of God & God only. I believe as you do. God called the Levites to do his service he called them unto himself they belong to him you find this in the book of Numbers 3vs6 he command Moses to number them. In the book of Chronicles David did according to the word of God when he appointed the Levites to over see the service of the tabernacle the temple of God. Like you I believe God expects it to be done then , the he expects it to be done now for he said He is God and he change not. Jesus said he came to fulfill the law not to do away with it. In Number 3vs the commandment given to Moses was separate from the law. This commandment still stands today the Psalms said make a joyful noise unto the Lord come into hi courts with Thanksgiving and praise. The Bible said God inhabits the praise of his people. In haven the angles are singing continuously. Praising God always. So I thank you for this article. I only pray that all these people who don't understand will get understanding. He received instructions from God, read 2 Chronicles 29: 25 "“And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet: for so was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.” KJV it would be better if one reads from 25th verse up to 29th or even the whole chapter.
However, having shown that church musical and singing originates in the Bible, I am too worried about the ways it is now conducted in churches! We need to search deeply, studying the Word of God, and praying to ask old ways and march in good ones. Jeremiah-6-16: “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.”Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30006406.post-75115453232657568452021-04-25T00:06:55.447-07:002021-04-25T00:06:55.447-07:00Nice, I have just came across this wonderful artic...Nice, I have just came across this wonderful article now, very helpful and wel explained Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17592034793239788515noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30006406.post-48365710966536025502020-04-10T12:21:59.161-07:002020-04-10T12:21:59.161-07:00I am very glad to find this information on line. Of all the laws stipulating a variety of activities why is it silent about music?

It appears to me it was David‘s idea to add to Tabernacle worship but I failed to find where God commanded it.

The few new testament references indicate that songs are for edification and no instruments or choirs are indicated. Personally I am not against forms of music and singing, but I feel many have over played their role and importance in the church. It would seem that if musical instruments and choirs were important to God he would have commanded it somewhere. No, we aren't bound by OT ceremonial law, but it doesn't mean there's nothing at all that we can learn from how God organized worship when it was his will to do so. Mostly, I believe that it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. We have freedom to use or not use what we see in the whole history of God's people in worship. If we're going to condemn any practice that doesn't have NT precedent, why do we have church buildings (for one of a hundred examples, if that one should have holes in it). What a stifling mentality. There are many biblical principles to guide the best functioning of church choirs or to help decide, in a given context, if a choir will help us communicate the glory of God in the face of Christ. This is not "anything goes." But let's take up the question within our broad and beautiful freedom to allow the gospel to create new forms and fresh expressions and expansive ways for people to participate. Just my two cents on a conversation that I realize has moved on:) I'm writing a book on worship and was happy to grab some excellent thoughts from your piece. So thank-you.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17103570820906124400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30006406.post-21594726543213747382018-10-29T09:45:26.838-07:002018-10-29T09:45:26.838-07:00Wow, this was written 12 years ago and people are ...Wow, this was written 12 years ago and people are still hunting it down and reading it. You'll find biblical examples of both. There are those who have argued that instruments are wrong and a capella is the only right way. It doesn't correlate with Scripture. (See, for instance, Psalm 150. It is full of musical instruments with which we praise the Lord.) (The Bible has over 1150 references to using musical instruments.) Thus, biblical worship includes choirs and instruments.Stanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04523232247971115247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30006406.post-61473669174433412282016-05-07T08:31:36.370-07:002016-05-07T08:31:36.370-07:00Stan God bless you. I grew up singing in the choir and being a part of a community choir at one time and gospel singing group. Today I see more and more churches eliminating choirs for whatever the reason maybe. Its unfortunate many churches may not know how the history of choirs actually got started. I think it's important as a church body to understand the biblical concept and history of music and the choir.
