The point was the focus people were putting on the verse without actually trying to understand it. It is a frequently misapplied reference and the point was the meaning. The Tebow stuff was just an example of how meaningless it has become. I doubt even Tebow actually knew the meaning of the passage, only that it is an outside the Church popular verse that would be an easy way for him to claim his Christianity in a not in-your-face way... on his face.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08443810898475961105noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30006406.post-57591742282189775802018-02-09T16:02:35.345-07:002018-02-09T16:02:35.345-07:00"No, I'm not interested in the meaning of..."No, I'm not interested in the meaning of John 3:16. I'm interested in drawing attention away from that." I got it. Thank you very much. (I'm aware of the nonsensical "NASA and the missing day" story and have corrected people myself on that. That has no bearing on the issue.)Stanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04523232247971115247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30006406.post-41670790117726365562018-02-09T15:26:43.263-07:002018-02-09T15:26:43.263-07:00Well, you did ask the question "Coincidence?&...Well, you did ask the question "Coincidence?" ;-}

I forgot to mention that my link gives Tebow 5.0 yards per run, not 3.16.

Anyway, I am reminded of a tract I was given many years ago. The topic was Joshua's missing day and a NASA computer program. If you haven't seen it, you can search online for "NASA Harold Hill."

For instance, the snopes site says of it:

That recognition, and that satisfaction, is what this legend provides. Intoxicatingly heady stuff, that. No wonder this tale has survived from generation to generation and withstood the ravages of countless debunkings. Nonetheless, its factual details are wrong, the scientific processes it describes are dubious, and its premise of a “missing day” depends upon some very selective and questionable intepretations of scripture.

Will there be evangelical tracts someday about Tim Tebow's "3:16 game"?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30006406.post-89978890932860820812018-02-09T14:04:29.889-07:002018-02-09T14:04:29.889-07:00I offered an interesting anecdote (including the s...I offered an interesting anecdote (including the source) as a lead in to an entirely different subject -- the meaning of John 3:16. You would like to discuss the validity of the news item???? This is what I would call "missing the point".Stanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04523232247971115247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30006406.post-23065492696474457782018-02-09T13:36:59.755-07:002018-02-09T13:36:59.755-07:00Tim Tebow had 10 completions, so his passing yards...Tim Tebow had 10 completions, so his passing yards and yards per completion are not independent in their digits, they are just decimal-shifts. Also, I don't understand the claimed 31.6 possession time. Tebow's team possessed the ball 29:05 while the other team possessed it 31.06. At least that's what I find here--

https://www.footballdb.com/games/boxscore.html?gid=2012010802
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30006406.post-52087339248061442292018-02-09T05:43:48.952-07:002018-02-09T05:43:48.952-07:00today we teach that if we can convince someone to ...today we teach that if we can convince someone to just believe in Jesus, they will be saved.
but Nicodemus, believed that Jesus was something special, and yet something was missing.
the question i have is ,, how can a man that is dead to spiritual things suddenly by virtue of his will, suddenly give life to spiritual things? and make himself born-again?
the formula taught today: if you just say this prayer, you will be born again.
i believe that men are born-again, by the Spirit, before any confession is made. the confession is a result, and not the cause, of being born of the Spirit.
we are encouraged by the fact that what is impossible for man, is possible for God.
